Drobo is a manufacturer of external storage enclosures which I love and recommend to all my clients. There enclosures come in several sizes and configurations appropriate for a range of user types and their needs. Drobo devices are much more than just external storage housing, they provide their proprietary Beyond RAID technology which is a hybrid of several RAID types, and they can provide up to 2 disk failure redundancy.
The devices range from the Drobo their smallest device, which has 4 drive bays and connects via USB or Firewire, up to the Drobo B1200i, a 12 bay enclosure which has 3 Gigabit Ethernet for iSCSI and 1 Gigabit Ethernet for Management.
The products are easy to use, easy to configure and yet very powerful. Setting up dual disk redundancy is managed with a single check box. Adding drives to Drobo is as simple as sliding the drive into the drive bay, all the formatting and data management is done in the background by the device.
